    Matt Newsome box-pleat Maclachlan

This is a Matt Newsome box-pleat in Maclachlan Modern, my clan tartan. Matt arranged the pleats so that the overall effect is muted but the bright red flashes when the pleats open. It doesn't have the "swish" of a 7-yard knife-pleat kilt but feels very balanced and very comfortable. I like it!
The overall outfit is typical for me when kilted. I grew up wearing jackets and ties so for me that's a very comfortable level of dress.

Very sharp looking! I love a box pleated kilt, it's uncommon, and Matt does extraordinary work!

I think the sweater vest and tie pair well with the kilt, I might steal your look!

    Thanks!

I like sweater vests and button-down shirts with or without a tie. For me it's a comfortable way to cover the broad gap between "casual" and "jacket and tie".

The vest also covers the high waist of a traditionally-cut kilt, which can look odd to modern eyes.

Very nice! A work of Art.

I really like that effect when the "reveal" shows a brighter part of the tartan, like yours showing the full bright red. It looks so great when the person is walking.

I saw that years ago with a military pipe band, their Royal Stewart kilts pleated to the darkest part of the tartan, so that the brilliant scarlet showed when they marched.

It usually works. The only example I can think of that I don't like is UCR's kilts (no offense to anyone in the UCRPB).

Nothing beats a box-pleated kilt and Matt Newsome is probably the best of a rare breed. Beautiful pleat job, well done on the purchase.
