    Arizona Scottish Gathering 3/19-20/16

    Coming up next week.
I should be hanging about the Gunn tent.
I'll be the pretty one in the weathered Gunn great kilt and black sheep wool broad bonnet or the modern Gunn traditional with the Black Gunn t-shirt.
Hm. Ok, that last may not be narrow enough. . . just ask.

Take some photos at the games. I'm always interested in seeing the games in different regions.

    Highland games?

Are you referring to the games at Indian School? Uh oh. I wanted to attend. Didn't know it was so soon.

Looks like I will be going on Saturday; gonna wear my UT Kilts Black Watch utility kilt. Nothing fancy, but kilted, nonetheless. Spent all of yesterday (Friday) at the mall, Lee Lees and Costco kilted also. Interesting to hear the comments and curious looks....

Left Colorado Thursday morning, met with family 'pon arrival, friends Friday. Went to the festival Saturday in great kilt, 18th c. workshirt and balmoral, the last quickly switched for a tan boonie hat (w/Gunn badge and juniper sprig) as it was about 92 degrees (didn't even bother with the broad bonnet, way too hot), had on some grey socks w/maroon wool gaiters and my "hillwalking ghillie brogues" (bum feet & knees). Like to burst into flames several times but fortunately at the first sign of smoke there was someone nearby with a water bottle.

Marched in the parade and took part in the opening ceremony with Clan Gunn. Exceeding hot sitting out there in the sun. A fellow a few rows ahead of us collapsed from the heat. My recommendation for next year if those temps prevail, shorten it up by about half an hour.

Lots of clans there but I got no count. My distaff clan, Cunningham was not in attendance. Lots of vendors, most focused on Scottish stuff. Lots of food vendors about half with Scottish entrees. The attendance was something over 10,000. I heard 14, 000 bandied about but can't confirm that. Wicked Tinkers, Celtica Pipes Rock and John MacLean Allan all played, I'd seen all three before and they seem to improve with time. I think there were three pipe bands in attendance but didn't get names. Glenmorangie tasting tent was there as well as an educational tent, a pub tent where most of the music was played. Games were in two venues. It was the women's world championships. There was a British car show, the star being a very, very cherry Sunbeam Tiger in stunning red.

Sunday seemed cooler but that could be because I traded the great kilt for a p/v Gunn Modern, short hiking socks, the 18th c. shirt, "riverrunner ghillie brogues" and boonie hat.

Didn't get many pictures as I spent a great deal of time trying to find shade. Here's what I did get the rest didn't come out:

    Me and John MacLean Allan

Two of the pipe bands wand'ring through. . . ah, some technical difficulties uploading the video. Maybe later.
