    The XMTS Thistle Photo Thread

The Thistle is a symbol of Scotland. It is a hardy plant, a tough spiky plant, and yet when it blooms it stands out gorgeously.
Like those of Scottish ancestry it can be found all over the world. I thought it might be fun if the members of xmarksthescot.com shared their images of the their thistles from their own parts of the world (or imagination). Periodically those of us involved in Scottish Heritage activities find ourselves looking for images on the internet to use for flyers, posters, programs, and such. This thread could be quite useful to our members the next time they need an image. So I challenge our membership to add their photos, drawings, paintings, or other artwork that display the humble and noble thistle in all its glory.

    Cheers

    Jamie

Well, with a name like ThistleDown I guess I just have to respond, Jamie. Both in my garden.

Milk thistle. My wife uses this pic on her calling card.

Scots thistle. This one actually achieved 3 metres in height.

I've no stock photos of them in my garden, and it's too soon yet, If I remember you'll have to wait until May at the earliest if not June - July.

I will add my photos when the "Bull" thistle blooms in mid May and hopefully when the Southern yellow thistle blooms late June.

NOTE: Not an April fool's prank.

    Tuscaloosa, Alabama - last summer.

Considered an invasive species here, so it gets poisoned anywhere in the city..

We have Canadian thistle here, invasive but nearly impossible to be rid of, (reminds me of a good friend of mine) we have vast fields out here that I will photograph once they sprout and bloom.
