Time Enough For Love
Have any of you heard of this book? It is a novel written by Robert A. Heinlein my postal carrier told me about today when he saw me in my kilt.

Any how The mail man said the main Charcter "Lazurus Long" said a kilt was very useful for hiding a weapon.. I told the mail man that I don't know that I would call it a weapon.. He got a good laugh at least....

I read it as a teenager. That book is the main reason I wear a kilt.

Read all of the Long family stories. Read "To Sail Beyond the Sunset" sometime.

Certainly is a lot cheaper if it is!

The first book starring the kilt-wearing hero is called "Methuselah's Children". "Time Enough for Love" and "To Sail Beyond the Sunset" follow. The last book is great, but you will appreciate it even more if you are familiar with Heinlein's other books, as it mentions characters from nearly all of them.
Sometimes I think Robert Heinlein raised me into adulthood, for better or worse. There is one story in TEfL that is a real tear-jerker, even after repeated readings.

Another good one is The Cat Who Walked Through Walls. Another in the Long family chronicals. Just too bad the hero is a Campbell <G>

Don't forget Stranger in a Strange Land...it taught me to grok individuality.
Bryan...and I read Starship Troopers in junior high-much better than the (crappy) movie...

I heard that a movie of Stranger in a Strange Land was under consideration. I think Owen Wilson would be great in the lead, with someone like Sean Connery as Jubal Harshaw.
As I mentioned before, Heinlein is why I always liked kilts.
Time Enough for Love influenced me considerably- it was only fitting that our 5-month old daughter Dora got her name from that book.
