    New from NH

Greetings from central NH! My kilt journey began when I was about 12 and joined an Irish pipe band with my Dad. I wore that kilt all through high school but never had one of my own. Finally when I was about 40, I bought my own. Although I had done a lot of genealogical research and knew I had roots in both Ireland and Scotland, I wasn’t sure which tartan to choose so I just went with the Black Watch.

Since then I’ve done more research and I can trace my family through the Hamiltons, straight back to Walter FitzGilbert Hamilton. So my next kilt (Soon!) will be a Hamilton tartan!

I retired from the Navy after 30 years, hence the screen name!

I can tell by your screen name that you're a fine fellow. (Ex-RCN)
Those ancient U Nialls from Donegal were a randy bunch.

    Welcome from the English midlands.
You have taken your family tree much further back than myself. The name "Hamilton" does appear, but no one of distinction.

Although I was always able to trace my Hamilton family back to the early days in Plymouth and Cape Cod, a lucky find about a DNA study online “broke the dam” back to the UK. After that, it was pretty well documented.
