Graham, you asked about friends and family reaction. They just kinda blow it off as just one more thing I do that they don't understand. A perfect example are my parents. When my step-father heard I had a kilt he just responded by telling my mom, "I just don't get that boy" to which she replied "don't worry he doesn't get you either". Which pretty well sums it up.
As far as my sweet bride she like's the look and is pretty much used to me being embarassed in public. She also just excusing just about anything I do as "what do exspect, it's Steven".
One fellow I work with, when he first saw the kilt, just responded with a loud "D***, you're just too hardcore!" I took it as a good thing.
So, as thus far, the reaction has been positive or at least neutral.
And as far as too gentle for all the heavy metal, you may be right. The thing is what you see there is the down played version, thats all they'll let me wear to work. I typically have three large hoops in the left ear, about three more necklaces, a few more braclets, and my hair down. I like a lotta chrome. But thanx, I will take gentle as a compliment.

Nice kilt! I've got the same problem with wearing my studs and chains, except it's at school and I can't wear any of it.
