Good Reactions
I usually hold my head high, put on my game face, and ignore most folks when they don't think I can hear them talking about my kilt. Every once in a while, though someone will ask questions or comment directly and I deal with that as it comes. The other day a black guy in line behind me asked if I was, "wearing of them 'kelts'." It was really nice and genuine. I explained it was pronounced "kilt" and yes it was. He liked it because it was a utility kilt and it had pockets like pants and he had only ever seen the "plaid"ones. I told him my grandmother is Scottish and I wear it for her. "Cool" he says.
I provide the detail that he black to show how race lines come down when someone is genuinely interested in something like the kilt. He and I looked, walked, talked, and dressed nothing alike but he was genuinely interested. Made me smile.
