Proper wearing of the Great Kilt

Hey all you belted plaid wearers....
I just received my great Kilt from Celtic Croft and they did a GREAT job. OK, I'm a wuss - I had cheater pleats sewn in.
On another front, can any of you help me with the proper way to gather the plaid and brooch it at the shoulder? Do I tuck any of it into my belt first? If so how much? Do I start at the corners? Which side goes across the chest in the front? Do you tuck, roll, fold....not quite sure where to start.

And when I get all this sorted out the pictures will follow

Regarding steps 13-16, if you're using that way of arranging it you can greatly minimize the "bulky" appearance at the waist by twisting or "tightly folding" the corner ends of the upper plaid before tucking them across your back and into the belt.

    Edited to add:

Here's an example from December '99, in Japan. My plaid here is actually a heavyweight tweed, and I'd been using it as a supplemental blanket the preceding few nights in the Tokyo apartment of one of my students who was there on a job for a year or so. Doesn't look terribly bulky at the waist, does it? Notice also how I'm avoiding having the weight of the plaid pulling on my sweater-vest and/or shirt by bringing a portion of it up under my left arm so that it becomes "self-supporting" on the shoulder:

OT: Dale, isn't that the tweed you recently had sewn into a kilt? It's a beautiful sett.

Oh no... Makes me tear up just a little. I had that happen to a pair of my red hose last summer. It sucks.

Now- on topic: Mr. Clark, should you like some live help, come to the Elizabeth Celtic Festival in July and the Renaissance Scots will be happy to help you. That is, of course, if you don't get it figured out by then. Alternatively, I'm going to the Renaissance Festival on the 10th of June. You're welcome to join me, and I can help you out then.
