What She Doesn't Know Won't Hurt Me
So there I was driving down the Peninsula to join my SO after she got out of church. I only get to see her on the weekends and, having confided to me that she can't help perceiving my kilts as "costume" but is willing to be seen in public with me anyway, she's asked that I confine my kilt-wearing to one weekend day per week.
I was kilted on the drive down, but also had a change available to "the unmanly dress of the Lowlander" in case she wanted me to change once I got to her place, since I'd gone kilted with her to a movie Saturday night. And on the drive, she asked me by phone to meet her for lunch instead of going directly to her place, at Max's at the Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto which is near her church.
Grinning to myself because she didn't know how I was dressed, I said "Sure, sweetie!!". It was our first really warm Spring weekend, mid-80s (F); and I was wearing a US Army Tartan kilt with a short-sleeved British Tan safari shirt, Bison hose from House of Cheviot, tan chukka boots and dark-brown kilt belt and Ferguson Britt sporran.
I wasn't even able to get halfway across the restaurant to where she told me she was seated before a lass working there told me, "Sir, I have to tell you I love that kilt, you look fantastic!!".
After lunch, I told my SO I needed to make a couple of stops before getting to her place. Fortunately there's a shopping center near her with all the various things I needed. Okay, first some coffee at Starbucks to replenish my supplies at my place and hers. As I was waiting while the beans were ground, a female customer passing me said, "You look wonderful. Just. . .wonderful!!"
Then across the lot to Trader Joe's for organic apples and bananas for my parrot and a few other things for me. A female employee came around the end of the aisle and saw me and stopped dead in her tracks.
She made no direct reference to the kilt, but didn't really need to as her eyes and expression said it all. But she did flash a big grin and say "Hi, how're YOU doin?!?".
Pretty well, I reckon.

Just pointing out that if the one I'm with doesn't appreciate the kilt, there seem to be plenty who do. . .

I think it's because it's spring time: there's another thread where Riverkilt is also in love.

Heh. I know where that Trader Joes is. I go in there all the time. I bet I'll hear about the "other guy in a kilt" pretty soon!

The one on Homestead Rd in Los Altos just off Foothill Expressway. Great convenience: Trader Joe's, Starbucks, Peet's, and a Rite Aid all right there. And ladies who appreciate kilts.
