Is it a tartan that is officially recognized and accepted by the "powers that be" in your clan? Is it commonly worn by other Pollocks and recognizable as a mark of clan identification?
If the answer to those questions is yes, and you like the tartan, then more power to you!
In my case there is a fashion tartan ("Black MacMillan") that was designed, woven, and marketed as having a connection to my clan, although it is not an officially recognized clan tartan. As a result, I don't wear it.

Although I'm a member, I have not met anyone from the clan. Perhaps once years ago as a tent visitor, but that only counts a bit. I've read mention of this on the website, but I have seen not one person in the clan deviate from the primary one.

For what its worth, I sit on the council of my local clan association and often get asked about colour and other variations in kilts worn by people in the clan....... usually from new members or people not associated with the clan. I cannot see anything wrong with wearing a different colour variation..... whats 'in vogue' at a particular point in time isn't necessarily what always will be. I find most people wear either the ancient or modern variation of the clan sett, but in Clan Donald we have a lot of tartans so I guess variation may be more widely accepted. I highly doubt a kinsman would reject you for wearing a variation of colour, in fact they may even look at it and think nice kilt - might have to get one for myself. If you've joined your association get along to their meetings or events, get to know people and have fun...... you may even find some others who have the same tartan.
