If you're looking into something unique, might I recommend something along these lines. http://smoke-fire.com/1803-clothes-and-patterns-1.asp I own one black and one brown in the style that they sell bespoke at the top of the page (the brown one is my favorite and it has been with me since I started reenactment back in 2000). They are very good for the money. According to the shop owner they use a variation of the pattern that they sell at the bottom of the page. Theirs is shorter by one button. The last reenactment use they saw was for the Ohio bicentennial, but I knocked the dust off of it near the start of my kilt wearing and it has seen a ton of use since.

Here's another place to check out, http://www.gentlemansemporium.com/gentlemans.php.

While I have not had the opportunity to try their merchandise, they have a wide selection of period-style (1860-1900) vests that would work perfectly with a kilt. Prices seem very reasonable for such unique offerings.

Both of those are good options. I especially like the selection you linked to MNlad.

Do you have a Marshals, Ross or Kohls close?
I just picked up a nice wool charcoal grey vest on clearance for $10 at Kohls.
I have seen very similar deals at Marshals.

My daughter shortening it now. Good luck

Here's a pretty cool place to by a nice vest (waistcoat) for about 25.00. It may be a nice option to as opposed to making one. It's a uniform (waiter and server) uniform supply shop, and the prices are really reasonable. I got the web site (this one) from a post here on Xmark's that was a few years ago, that was talking about spincer jackets, and "going formal" at a great price.......You guys might like to check it out.

Plus one about Kohls. I just picked up an expensive jacket on clearance for 1/10th its retail cost! Great place to shop. Good quality clothing, good customer service, good prices.

I got this one at an ordinary shop in a mall (JC Penny?)

I like it because it has lapels and looks more or less like a 19th century waistcoat.

I changed the buttons from the overtly plastic ones it came with, to horn buttons.

I will definately try Kohl and Penny's perhaps even Marshall's as I have all 3 with in 30 minutes of me. If it wasn't for the price I would have ordered from Gentleman's Emporium already. Those are some fantastic vests.
