au contraire
This, too, may be one of those cases where one person will readily do what another never would, but I have in fact worn my red PC to black tie events. In some circles it is not unusual for someone to wear a dinner jacket that is not black or white. I guess it depends on where you go. I think the colorful nature of tartan undermines any ideas of black tie as all black and white. But, anyway, I am attempting to upload a couple of shots of my red PC.

I have a few different colours, as the mood and event varies, and I think I have a black one as well somewhere...

and I could have used the orange PC as it is sort of a 'regimental' colour for a group, but alas too small...

Just want to say that I have liked your grey PC since you first showed it to us.

Or getting in a little deer hunting on the way to a black tie event. Of course you'd have to wear your hunting tartan. Oh and in our zone you'd require a blaze orange balmoral, too.
I'm just trying to be the person my dog thinks I am.

I'm with you there Chas, I think white would be ever so dapper. Be a bit of an anti climax if a waitress up-ended your soup though. And if that orange PC on ebay recently had have been a 46", I'd have had that snapped up as well.

I suspect this is not for wearing but has been constructed to display the different fabrics available when ordering a bespoke PC from Mr David Ogilvie's tailoring emporium (Scott Blair Ltd) ... You never know though.

All joking aside this was my initial thought as well.
