I've made three jackets using this pattern. It makes a good jacket, and if somebody were a tailor (I'm not), it could be modified to make a fully-tailored Argyll. However, keep in mind that the whole pattern is intended as a costume, not as a traditionally-made, top-quality kilt.

I'll chime in here to point out that for all the very problems that the kilt pattern has, the jacket pattern has too. Just as a kilt is not layed out as a sewing pattern, a jacket isn't either. While I'm sure this pattern will produce a very nice-looking jacket (and to be honest, it will probably produce a pretty good looking kilt too, especially to someone who isn't as familiar with them), it will not be the same as a properly tailored jacket. Once again, not that you can't produce a fair jacket from this pattern, but good jackets require hand stitching, which this pattern will not attempt to replicate.

Agreed. I have one jacket in progress using this pattern. (I've stopped many times for research and other high-priority projects.) It looks spot on, but the construction, if following the pattern, is unusual. I had to incorporate many techniques found in tailoring books and websites to get the look AND feel of a professional jacket that will last for years.
