    1st Kilt

I was at a faire today, and got a kilt from a kilt maker there. It is Black Steward Tartan. Haven't worn it outside yet. But I have a party later this month that I am planning on wearing it to. Two friends were with me, so they know my plans.

Hey MDR-V300, let the lad take one step at a time!

Wil, that's exciting to hear, you are where we have all been, for those of us who are fathers, it's almost like having a first child!!

Don't be shy about wearing it, everyone except the town idiots will think it looks great.

Do you plan to accessorise the kilt with anything else (belt, sporran, kilt hose etc)?

First time out in public in a kilt can be rather scary. But, people don't tend to react to it as much as you think they would. I'm almost disapointed when someone doesn't appear to notice now days.

Me too Donnie, I feel like saying "well.....do ye like the kilt or no??"

I used to draw attention to the kilt when I first began wearing it if no one commented, that annoyed my wife.
I don't need to do that now, I wear it for me, no one else.

in the first period of wearing i watched out at how poeple looked at me. i found it funny because it was if they had seen an alien. a friend of mine, which i droped in one of my kilts said he felt like a star having all the folks looking at him. but in fact i never had a bad reaction and they are overwhelmingly positive.
later, since a few month later from my recent beginning i don t even feel and notice poeples looks.

but thats the hardest part we all have to go through, and unfortenatly thats the big block preventing many men wearing the kilt. but as we say in austria: good things take while. means great things need to grow...

I've been out in public twice in my Barleyjuice Philabeg from USA Kitls. And I've gotten NO reactions at all.

The first time, we went into a busy bagel place and stood in line, ordered, picked up our orders and went back outside. Had to walk across the parking lot too. No reactions.

The second was a quick dash in and out of a movie rental place to return a DVD and let them know that it was scuffed slightly and wouldn't play through to the end. The place was pretty empty in the mid-morning hours, but there were people in the shopping center and the parking lot.

Again, no reactions. I didn't even detect a sideways glance.

I must just look really in place in my kilt. *shrugs* I kind of wish somebody would say something.
