One of the most amazing things about designing this, was shooting out in the middle of the Highlands in January in the freezing rain, sleet snow. They are running, fighting, rolling on the ground, riding horseback, doing all sorts of stunt work.
All of the crew had super deluxe, Hi tech gear on, and they were freezing and wet. But our Highlanders who were dressed as Highlanders, were warm and dry. Out tartan has felted a bit and is quite dense, but is also light enough for our actors to wear when on a small set with a raging fireplace and enormous lighting rigs. On those days, the crew is in shorts.
So it serves us very well.
That is very interesting. I wear my kilt whilst out on the hills from spring through to autumn. I still however wear modern mountaineering clothing on my upper body. What material did you use for actors' base layer (shirts/sarks)?

Much better. Yes, absolutely. We love Vancouver, and lived there (in Kits and West Van) for many years. One of our favorite places.

Some anachronistic dirks here:
The guy to the right of Jamie (background, with horse) has what looks like a brass-mounted version of the dirk Colum wore at the Gathering; handle style is closer to 1800. Jamie's & Dougal's dirks are more mid-to-late1600s, though Highland thrift could argue for hand-me-downs in decent condition. The other guy, center foreground -- can't see his well enough.

Actually, Jamie`s dirk looks exactly like a Hanwei "early dirk," complete with it`s really poor quality sheath. It looks kind of like an early period dirk, except that the handle is almost twice as long as it should be. It can be had from numerous internet sources for well under $100.00

Totally outside of my jurisdiction, as we have a top notch armorer, but I would be VERY surprised if our lead actors sheath was a $100 anything on this show.

@terry dresbach, if I win the walk-on part in the Watch-and-Win Sweepstakes, will I be able to wear my own Great Kilt? (Macneil of Barra Ancient tartan) I assume not.

It was really cool to see something like the waulking sequence. I recently saw a demonstration from a fiber group at a local festival. I hope they can continue to add sequences of daily life like this.
