Since my feet got too big for my Buckle Brogues that I got back in the 1980s (the Mary Jane style of shoe) I put a pair of these traditional buckles on a pair of modern tassel loafers. (I cut off the tassels.) This style of slip-on formal shoe with nonfunctional buckles was worn throughout the 19th century, so I'm more or less reviving an old style.

I purchased a pair of these buckles to replace the plain ones on my buckle brogues. I found that the "shank" (for lack of a better word) was too tall to use. The buckles stood above the shoe at an almost clownish degree.
