Today's gardening attire

Today was a gardening day. The perfect attire? My cheap Tartanista utility kilt. Complete only with rubber boots. No Sgian Dubh, though.

Two older gents in our garden colony certainly disapproved of the entire look. What is your favorite unusual footwear with a kilt? Any stories?

You will hear from others here that rubber boots (also known as Wellingtons) are appropriate with a kilt if the ground conditions and weather requires that footwear. Never fear the sensible decision of clothe choices.

It is not the most refined look, very true. I have to say though, this is the most comfortable I have yet been doing garden work. Makes me want another, higher quality utility kilt!

I'm jealous. It snowed yesterday here in New Hampshire. Gardening will have to wait. BTW, the look is fine. I like to see kilts worn in a functional manner. A more every day kind of thing.

Before I had Ghillie Brogues and when my kilt was a kilt on its own, I wore black workman boots or brown steel-toed boots. As can be seen in the picture below!



Now please keep in mind, this was when I first started wearing the kilt and didn't know as much as I do now, that's why it looks uneven and terrible.

What if I told you I wear Ghillie Brogues, hose, flashes with sgian dubh regardless of weather and terrain? There was a time where I came home from a trip up the hills, a local hill park type place, and my brogues were half-way covered in mud.

Obviously I cleaned them with my wash cloth.

It looks okay. I can understand why you would do this, easier to move around in a kilt. I imagine you would have to wash it regularly though, gardening is a dirty and messy job.

Since you asked: I'd say its admirable to look your best, though circumstances, terrain and ground water can at times have "best" mean different choices to different people.
