Hi from Qld, Downunder...

Hi, and thanks for having me.

I was certain I'd joined up here 8+ years ago, but evidently not.
My wife and I breed Clydesdale horses, and show them, and although Scots do not exhibit livestock at fairs and shows while wearing a kilt, our family decided we would - simply to show some pride in the ancestry of where the Clydesdale came from - plus my surname - Stewart-Koster - the Stewart part of our family was from Craigiehall - near Edinburgh, and Alyth, Perthshire, among other interesting stories.

Plus we do it for fun.

I sometimes wear the Black Stewart kilt (The red one is a bit loud for the occasion, for me), and sometimes a Maclean one, mostly greenish, which also does not stand out too much, when parading the horses.
Our oldest son prefers the Blue Douglas tartan.
Our daughters like the Heritage of Scotland (not the Pride of Scotland) one.

I saved a bit of hair from one of our older Clydesdales some years ago, and plan to make a long horsehair sporran in due course- for the fun of it also. (I do make our own harness for the clydies, so sewing leather isn't new to me.)

me with another clydesdale of ours. IN hindsight I should have worn the dark plain sporran - and have ever since. For practical purposes, I still wear work-boots, though a few say it looks odd. That's better than getting accidentally stood on!

This must have been a different year - as it's the Black Stewart kilt- still with the white sporran I don't use in that role any more- I'll leave the white hairy parts to the horses' legs! I'm wearing shoes here - must have been a while ago.

Well alright as you are “all ears” , you could consider ditching the flat cap and you could consider your team just wears one tartan.
A fore and aft hat might be a consideration as they are traditionally rustic in this part of the world and are worn with the kilt here.
Love the pictures of those wonderful animals, brings back memories!

Or, the balmoral is another consideration.


There is nothing wrong with wearing the Aussie slouch hat or other wide brimmed hats such as a panama with the kilt, although I can quite see that they may not stay on too well when handling a ton of excitable horseflesh!

Just so you know, flat caps worn with the kilt is a "nuclear" topic on this website, but many in the kilt world suggest that a flat cap is best avoided when wearing the kilt, on the other hand, many newcomers to the kilt appear to strongly take the opposite view!
