Kilts and Culture - Amber Waves of Grain tartan
Rocky mentioned that this new tartan reminded him of something he might see at Brooks Brothers (and commented that Brooks Brothers actually HAS a tartan).
When I was in NYC for the Tartan Day Parade last April, I wandered in to Brooks Brothers KNOWING that they had a tartan and asked to see a sample. No one in the store had even the foggiest notion of what I was talking about, and the best they could offer as an explanation was that all that remained of the original retailer was the NAME, which had been sold several times in just the past decade.
I also enjoyed seeing the reveal of the new Kilt Pins, although I was surprised at how LARGE they are. I quibble a bit with the designs in another way as well. Specifically, the Unicorn appears to me to be sheiding imaginary genitals from a good swift kick.

This is the Brooks Brothers tartan I'm referring to. It was designed by Brian Wilton (prior head of the Scottish Tartan Authority) back in 2012.

I've seen it in the wild in their stores on a lot of different items years ago.

WOW! I had NO idea it was such a recent creation.
When I learned to read, 7½ decades ago, one of my favorite pastimes was leafing through my mom's weekly New Yorker issues. although I lingered only on the cartoons and the full page ads for cultural opposites (Bentley/Rolls Cars vs. countercultural VW Beatles). Ballantine Beer ads featuring a different ethnic/immigrant minority each week (and in the process losing their entire market), and of course the Brooks Brothers ads. Now aware that the BB tartan is barely a decade old, it's clear to me they've certainly not paid much attention to their own commission!
