UK to reintroduce the tuxedo kilt?

I don't know how long it's been up 'cause I rarely open that page, but I just saw this on the UK Classifieds:

    Yet Another Tailor Needed
This one to sew our tuxedo kilt. Must be detail oriented, meet deadlines and willing to expand to small-run production on a continuing basis. Seattle preferred but will consider qualified tailors / seamstress in the continental USA. Must aspire to go boldly where no man has gone before!!!
Info, questions: Please contact Steven or Sheila @ 206-282-4226

A little further down I saw an add for a tailor to make custom Kilt jackets for them.

I REALLY wish that they would just "let it go"!!!

That's just NOT where anyone needs to go for such a kilt. They have the same inherent problems as the other UtiliKilts... which does NOT serve the "tux" look at all.

Twenty-First Century Kilts has got the right idea NOW. Why anyone else would even mess with their perfection is questionable.

UtiliKilt re-running the Tux Kilt is akin to Hyundai coming-out with a Ferrari knock-off. If just doesn't work!

    ...and YES, I've examined them.

Strangely, there is a demend for them. The Utilikilt diehards will argue until cow comes home that they will buy them over tradtional hadn sewn kilts for similiar price.

Brand loyalists, just like some people with their cars!

I like my UKs. I also like variety. I am intrigued by the idea of a black wool UK w/satin trim, but it's a limited use garment; if I were to invest that much in a kilt for truely "formal" wear, it would probably be a hand-sewn traditional, in my grandfather's tartan.

I make no appologies about being a UK diehard. I love the things. I don't have to worry about coordinating with a tartan (something that takes ME some time and thought ) and they are perfectly suited for every day wear and tear. That being said, the sticker price last time I looked was $650 for the tuxedo . Why not put that towards a very nice 8 yarder? You could even do something in the 25 oz. brunswick fabric that someone around here brought up;)

Whats more, an occasion to wear the tuxedo would also present an opportunity to go with a full highland wear outfit, an opportunity, my inability to dress myself asside, that I relish. Basically, not a place I would put my kilt dollars.

I am by no means a kilt expert... but that just seems like a BAAAAD idea for a product.

Maybe at $200, I could see a market. Heck, I might even buy one.

But $650 ?!? No way. I'd buy a tank. Or two...
