By the way, Bonnie Rideout, the greatest (IMO) of Scottish fiddle players, is as American as American can be. I hope this irony is not lost on those posting on another thread concerning non-Scots and their ability to study and learn about tartans and kilts, as compared to those raised in a "Scottish household."

If you ever get a chance to go to a concert - don't think of it as a bunch of Brigadoonery. Go to the concert. She's fantastic!

They were a good group. They have now disbanded.
Two of the main members are now part of Rathkeltair.

I'm surprised nobody's got Runrig or Donnie Munro on their shelves. I'd recommend, too, the CD produced by Coisir Lunnainn http://coisirlunnainn.org.uk - the London Gaelic Choir - after the last Mod in Perth.

One of my wifes co-workers loaned me her copy of "Darby O'Gill and the Little People" - a band from Las Vegas. They rock! In some ways, they remind me of the Pogues, but the vocals are a bit more polished.

They are not, by the way, the group Darby O'Gill that has the aversion to squirrels.

There're a couple of compilations under the Putomayo label - one that I've acquired recently is called "From Dublin to Dakar", which is a very interesting collection.

There's a player of the Uillean Pipes, who lives on Islay, Wattie Leese who has a CD called "Over the Hill".

I've got a pipe band compilation by the City of Glasgow Police Pipe Band.

Then there're two singers I like a lot - Anne Lorne Gillies and the Canadian Mary Jane Lamont.

There's also the Rogues (formerly the Scottish Rogues), out of Houston, and E. J. Jones, who's done some solo projects since Clandestine.

Alasdair Fraser is an incredible Scottish fiddler, as is Brian McNeill. I get to hear them at TSF every year. Such a treat!

Andy M. Stewart, formerly of Silly Wizard, is a wonderful singer & song writer.

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned
    Capercaillie
    Battlefield Band
    Fiddler's Bid
    Malinky
    Dougie Maclean
    Ally Bain
    and the list goes on...

Smithfield Fair is out of Baton Rouge.

Some of the lads who were formerly of The (Scottish) Rogues formed Scottish Mayhem earlier this year. More great rocking pipes!

It's such a joy to have so much wonderful music available, but I'll be never able to buy it all & afford to eat, much less be able to buy more kilts for my lads.

    Sherry
