I'm chuckling reading this thread, I let my satellite lapse while I was involved in coursework so I wouldn't be watching TV when I should have been studying. You've inspired me to have it turned back on. O'Neille

I'm surprised no one has mentioned The Benny Hill Show. Good old-fashioned bawdy vaudeville style humor.

I also really enjoyed Black Adder.

I totally forgot about 'Benny Hill'. My Dad used to make me watch it when I was a kid, now I make my kids watch it when it's on.

I think I first saw the Benny Hill Show when I was around eleven, so it was actually my first exposure to Bristish television. I don't see it in our local listings anymore

There was an episode of Family Guy with an allusion to Benny Hill, when Stewie talks about having sexy parties I know, Family Guy is baaaad, but is it ever funny!

D'oh!! Add me to the list of people who forgot about Benny Hill. It's been a long long time since I've seen any epsiodes, though. We used to get the show when I was a kid. Another one I liked from that era was "The Two Ronnies".

My favorite part of the movie "V for Vendetta" was the Benny Hill tribute scene with Stephen Fry, he was great in that movie.

"Porridge" - a prison comedy. The "American On the Rocks" was a direct take-off, but wasn't funny.

I don't think of "Jeeves and Wooster" as a Brit-com - it is more a literary adaptation. I own the whole series on DVD. One of the minor actors has his own dramedy show now. Martin Clunes played Barmy Fotheringay Phipps in later episodes, and now plays the title role in "Doc Martin." Barmy had no brains, while Martin has no heart. He is a brilliant surgeon working as a GP in a small Cornish town since he devolped a fear of blood.

Re: Jeeves and Wooster cast members, a friend of mine is married to the woman who played Bobbie Wickham in the second episode. You can easily see that "20's English Chick" look when you meet Nina although she doesn't have that same hairstyle. I kid her unmercifully about everybody in the UK having been in one BBC production or another at one time or another...the whole nation is populated by actors!
