HAHAHAHAHAH
Just kidding guys. I echo the statements here... mods are doing a great job keeping this forum clean.

I like both of these ideas (and I say we use 'em!) I don't see anything wrong with these new rules, they all sound good to me!

Och, a glow on yonder horizon. I have visitors. I'd best be off to make tea.

So... should I change my user name? or does every post I make get me an "in-fractious" point?

Mods,
Thanks for all the work that makes this a place I don't mind my kids using without my supervision. Sad that we have to be so formal and rule-bound, but I know it's necessary.

I know that some people think it's a PITA (can I say that without getting a point? ) but I like the fact that should any of my family look over my shoulder and read what's on the screen, they will not be shocked by it.
(unlike another forum that I read, not kilt related, that I am ready to quit)
Good jobs, Mods! Lets give this new system a go!

I mean, software updates and all are a pain in the hiney, sure, but are the members THAT nasty or inapprpriate or abusive so that a system like this is needed? I never look at the "removed" posts sections, so I really don't know.
Alan, this is the tenth post I have submitted, today. One post was to lock down a thread that had gone OTT. So, where are the other eight, you ask? In a closed section, where the forum staff have been dealing with today's chamberpot of nasty, inappropriate and abusive posts. And it's a good day, as I've only received four Private Messages about forum issues.
Forum moderation really is not that bad. Trying to keep track of 680 active members, remembering who said what and when is. So, instead of the forum staff (who are not allowed anything sharper than crayons to write with) adding up rules infractions on our fingers and toes, we are going to let the forum do it for us. We've merely automated a manual process and felt we owed the membership an explanation.
The Needs Moderating usergroup has a total of 6 members, currently. One forum member just had full forum permissions restored within the last week. Four members have been banned in the last 6 months, with six others banned since 1 January 2006. Four threads have been locked down in the last month. Since the software upgrade, we're enjoying a brief respite from the robot spammer registrations, but that will soon change and we will be back to dealing with the removal of 4-6 spam registrations each day.
Hey, now I'm up to five Private Messages. Number five suggests I give you an infraction for questioning our use of the infraction system. I'm going to assume that one was in jest. And number six just rolled in, so I'm away. I hope this answered your questions.

OK, that gives some insight, thanks!
I participate in three other forums online. One is a sailing forum which is totally out of control and incredibly rude, juvenile and obnoxious....and massively popular... I don't spend much time there any more. I moderate another sailing forum which is not terribly busy, though we have about 120 members and in the past three-four months I've had to delete one post. Finally I participate in another forum which is definitely NOT family-friendly and while sometimes the posts get pretty edgy, the participants seem to more-or-less police themselves. When the option to post anonymously was removed, nearly all the obnoxious behavior vanished.
So those are my points of comparison. Thanks again for the insights into keeping an eye on X-Marks!

Sounds like you are just keeping up with the times. I'm new but it seems that we have a good bunch of guys (and gals) here that don't seem to get out of hand.
