Now that we are in to Spring, shortly the Highland games and pipe band competitions will be starting in Scotland. one of my favourite venues is Levengrove Park in Dumbarton which has hosted the Scottish Pipe Band Championship for the last several years. When the sun is shining its hard to find a better venue with Loch Lomond just up the road and the River Leven coming from the Loch and flowing alongside the park and on the other side the Firth of Clyde beginning to open out heading towards the Cowal peninsula and several islands on the firth.
As a backcloth to the championship in Levengrove park we have the magnificent Dumbarton Rock with the ancient castle on top. Believe me there is nothing wrong with this shortbread and haggis image, its magnificent and really sells Scotland especially so when the sun shines.
This year it takes place on Saturday 19th May and if anyone is in the area, it is well worth a visit, wearing your kilt is compulsory,no excuses.
I noticed a kilt night is being organised around this time, what better day out than the Scottish Pipe Band Championship followed by our own kilt night. Dumbarton could be the venue for the kilt night, there will be thousands of kilties there or Glasgow or Inveranan is easily reached.
