Dude, that rocks! I just hope you didn't overeat at the restaurant before the surprise party (that's probably what I would have done).

Congratulation Piobear! I had a similar experience last fall......My wife asked me what I wanted to do on my actual birthday, (it was a decade mark so we had planned a trip to Grand Caymen but that was two months off.) I told her we should have just a few friends over for dinner perhaps, but absolutely no gifts! I have everything my friends can afford....I thought. When the day came, we had three couples over, had a small cake, and a nice Sunday afternoon. Everyone abided by my rule. My family called to wish me happy birthday as usual, except for one or two, as usual. The following Saturday I had agreed to help a friend build some shelves in the garage of his new house. He conveniently kept me busy until about noon. As I came over the hill that leads to our house I immediately noticed about twenty cars in the driveway. As I looked further, there were forty or fifty people standing at the base of the stairs leading to the front door. Closer inspection yielded that these people were all my closest friends and family already with drinks in hand. Some had traveled over 400 miles to be there. A total surprise. A tremendous party ensued, the highlight of which was the presentation of my kilt, MacLaren modern made in Scotland. It turns out that my wife had started planning this three months before, gotten my measurements cleverly, (another long story,) and my friends had all chipped in to buy the most beautiful thing I've ever seen much less worn. The best day of my life, I hope not, but it'll be right up there.
    Respectfully,
    David Tate

I hope you're able to wrap your mind around the clear fact that you deserved it and they all love you....and what a great wife!

You are doubly blessed - a birthday to remember and a wife who really cares.

    Congratulations,

May I add my own congratulations...not only birthdaywise, but also for all the cheer and goodwill you've obviously instilled within your closest community of friends. A well deserved celebration!

That's really super. Thoughtful spouse and friends, indeed.

I've begun converting my old vinyl records, too, with the help of a gizmo that connects my old turntable and mixing board to a computer.

Now that your wonderful party is over, you can enjoy your old music as if it were new.
