    I've only made one kilt
I hand sewed an eight yard kingussie style kilt that I wear to reenactments
I used some med. weight wool in small sett Black Stewart
I really like the kingussie style (center box pleat and knife pleated to front on both side) don.t know why its not seen more often

Until someone comes up with a way to change my ten thumbs into eight fingers and two thumbs, I must rely on the people who are good at it.

I know my limitations - pinching pennies is the way to go for me

I can't see myself ever doing it, but I sure admire those that will give it a try.

While I admire those with the courage and talent to sew their own kilts I just don't have the talent, patience, or eyesight. I do so admire the craftsmanship of folks like Kathy Lare and am willing to pay for it.

Bottom line for this olde bird....I sew, I bleed.

No thank you. I'll pay you to do the "pleat calculus" for me.

There's a book out there called "your money or your life" or some such title that basically says that you should consider your free time costing you as much as what you make on an hourly basis. Therefore, if you can pay someone $7/hour to mow your lawn and it would cost you (on an hourly basis) $20/hour to do it yourself, you are better off paying someone to mow your lawn while you go and do whatever you like for that time period.

All of this is to say: if you like sewing/cutting/fitting etc. to make a kilt...go for it! If, on the other hand, you would rather be out biking/hiking/skiing, then you should just buy a kilt from a good kilt maker and be done with it.
