I agree it appears that you are just hovering in mid air. Also I think that the picture should be at a lower angle, cannot see your left knee. The Leatherneck is very bright perhaps tone that down a bit in photoshop after all you should be the focu of attention not your kilt. Other than that very dapper indeed.

Point taken! I'll look closely at the original, and see if I can move the mouse around in the right places. The original dosen't have any shadows to speak of, but maybe if I just shade to darker at the bottom, it will work.

I wonder, sometimes, if the advent of digital cameras and software like gimp (which is what I used) have put some photographers out of business.

I just said "photo-shopped" cause I'm not sure everyone would understand "gimped?"

    Very dapper indeed!

I definitely think you should photoshop some "ground" in there. At present you look like the Ethereal Scotsman!

Since you asked for brutal honesty, I don't love the picture. Your facial expression looks startled to me, and the pose makes me think you're hunched over (probably the combination of the bent arm and fly paid.) I also agree with what others have said about the brightness of the tartan, and the floating in the clouds effect.

Now, I am not saying not to use the picture, or that the outfit doesn't look great, but since you asked for an unvarnished opinion, I thought you were entitled to it. Congrats on the award, by the way, what is it for?

    Best regards,

You are so much better at this than I am!!!

The best I could come up with for improvements is below:

The award is no big deal, it's a civic thing for my volunteer work, but it will be black tie.

and sure I'm startled! Me? -getting an award? ....and as for me being hunched over, I thought that the operation had been a success!

    - - -but even though the tartan seems bright, I'm not going to change it.

McMurdo - maybe I should just use this one
