I just got my Leatherneck standard today and I love it.
I'm curious, why not wear a chain strap with an acrylic kilt? Does it make it wear out quicker where the chain hangs?
And I agree, Jerry is great. I ordered my kilt on Sunday, shipped Monday, and got it Wednesday. That's awesome.

The chain will tend to wear the fabric on any kilt. Much better to get a plain leather belt, and leave the chains to the un-informed or fancy chains for really dressy events. Chains hurt fabric!!! Leather is kinder!!!

That's what I was talking about with the loose weave. The chains snag the material really easily.

I will add to what James has said, a lot of the chains have a clasp type thing, I don't remember what they ar called, and this will eventually hook into the fabric and potentually cause a horrible snag. Just go to a store and get an extra long belt that matches your sporran... Or learn the hard way if you wish.
If you just really, really want the chains, put something around the clasp that will keep it safe from your kilt... a cloth or leather tube perhaps. SHHHH, I used masking tape, and I only use the chains for looking nice in a picture or something, but not very long.

For what it is, an inexpensive kilt, Stillwater standards are pretty decent. Once you have worn a real wool handmade kilt though, you will never go back. I have a Hunting MacLeod SWK that barely gets worn anymore. I need to repress the pleating because the front edge constantly curls.

That reminds me. There is that issue with the first pleat on the front apron not being tapered. I don't know if they are adjusting those now, but Alan H had a thread on re-pressing that pleat with a taper to stop it from curling forward. It isn't too big of a problem, though.
Sorry I keep rambling on and on.
** I found the thread and will also put the link in this post now.**

That's so interesting. I've read that in other threads and have watched for it on my own, bt I haven't had that problem.
Guess I'm just lucky.

Good on ya', Scott. Just be happy it would take three or four of your kilts to fit 'round my fat ****, or I'd be making good use of my master key and your closet!

Duct tape or black electric tape is great for the sporran clasp. I have several Stillwaters and have never had pleat problem. And our Pub has an outdoor firepit in winter, to which I am firmly attached. Have never caught fire, smouldered, melted nor sparked.
Am waiting for new tartans, then I shall decend upon Jerry like a Gull on a bag of chips.
