Thread: blasted school

Excellent! There really aren't any laws saying that you can't be kilted. It sounds like this teacher has serious control issues... such as, "I am teacher, you are student, bow before my mightiness."

That kind of issue. I have of all things trouble with my skirts. A lot of jobs seem to feel that girls should wear pants and I don't wear pants more than once or twice a year.

Way to go, Casey! You've done your part to promote kilt wearing for the entire year! I'm very proud of you, and I hope both you AND your teacher learned something from this.

In fact I think this teacher is really cool. Having substituted in classrooms where utter chaos is the norm....having been in classrooms where I threw out a third of the class because they would not shut up, would not do anything but jerk around, I sympathize with the teachers.. He's there to get get students...as many students as he can, to learn some stuff. He's paid to get as many students as possible through the state-mandated high school exit exams. In order to do that, he HAS to maintain some significant control.

As a substitute, my technique was to just expel anyone who couldn't at least not disrupt the entire class. The full-timers don't have that option. If I saw something that I thought was likely to disrupt my class, I'd have a chat with the potential disruptor, just like this guy did. Hey, he apologisec, and Casey got to wear his kilt.

    All's well.

I walked in and he stopped me and said that he was sorry. He had thought alot about what had been said, and since there are no laws dictating what a person can or can't wear that I can wear my kilt if I feel so inclined to. so I put it back on. and I sat on the jury. the trial (nothing like what I was used to with mock trials) lasted 45minutes including the voir dire... I remember back in the 8th grade sitting through 2 weeks of in-class trial. it was SUPER dumbed down.

and as for my GPA, I have currently got a 3.986 cumulative. I am ranked at 119 of 748. and I received a 100% in the trial because I was the lead juryman I lead the debate and read the deliberation back to the court.

He told me after class that he has had problems in past years where kids start laughing and you can't hear whats happening and it just gets bad. he also appologised to me.

I'd say win in my book.

oh and I rarely ever go at anything with a "screw him" attitude. that NEVER works.

HA, yeah. back story is that he is a seasoned teacher. He has taught for 14 or so years, and never has he encountered a kilt. He has had a few cross dressers though. now he taught for 9 or so of his years at an inner city public school. I think that is where his control issue stems from. hes told us stories of never being in control. horrific. point is though I am at a suburban school (not to offend anyone) thats about 85% white and upper-middle class (or crazy in debt). Now, WE ARE MESSED UP IN OUR OWN WAYS. I am not even going to deny it at all we have gang wars and drug problems like none other, its just that we for the most part do what we are told. and don't act out too much. I mean I love a good clean fight, and I've been waiting 3 years to see a good clean fight. fights are usually over in about 10 minutes, well we did have a problem where a mother came into our school walked up to a student and beat the poo out of her for punching her pregnant daughter in the stomach. that was a bad day. wow, first time I'd seen a grown woman tazed by a police man! anyway I digress, not too much acting out really happens.

now to give you some info Alan H, Our class is an elective, its not a state required. Sadly the state shot themselves in the foot there, in ohio, you take the OGT (ohio graduation test) sophomore year. if you pass it, all you have to do is get the credits and you graduate. so I've known for 3 years now that I can't really mess it up unless I just stop coming. The OGT is an insult really, if you can read you can pass it. Now I agree with you he does need to maintain some control. it is a discussion based class, we do lots of debating.

over all hes a nice guy and he is always into joking around with us. I don't know what really spawned his original unhappiness to kilties. I am not sure. all I do know for sure is that, I got to wear my kilt, and I got a 100% and I did it all without being any bit uncivilized on either part. it was calm and it worked. and I am happy!

please forgive any of my comments here I was sort of just typing as I went, not too well thought out. some of it might be a bit testy for the board and I don't want to offend anyone.

as a member of the jury (or called to be impanelled) you can bet too that you'd probably be dismissed by one of the lawyers. Like it or not, wearing a kilt is seen by the general establishment as being a bit odd. lawyers don't want to bet their case on someone which the establishment thinks is 'a bit odd'. In some cases, one side might find that desirable, which makes it a darn sure thing that the other lawyer is going to dismiss.
really? i will remember this when i get summoned for jury duty, wooot!

Casey, congratulations! That went really well. You were cooperative, and the teacher saw reason. The best from both of you!
