I seem to recall that we had another member on the board who was from Japan, I just can't remember his handle.. Congrats on continuing to expand the reach of the kilt!
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

Welcome from a former resident of Japan!!! I wore my kilt a couple of times in Japan (in Yamaguchi prefecture) and the reaction was very positive with my friends. I'm hoping to get a few of my Japanese friends kilted at my wedding party in Scotland next month.

    Nice tartan BTW.

Thanks for the kind welcomes everyone! You know, I never imagined that I'd be the only one in this country running around in a kilt, but much to my surprise, it seems I'm in good company with other X-members as well. I found this old thread:
    http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/k...271/index.html

    LOL.

Well, if any of you are currently in (or find yourselves on a trip) to Tokyo, give me a holler! We'll don our kilts and paint the town red! (Or at least go down to the local for a few pints).

I suspect that for many, wearing a kilt might be a stretch, mainly because tartans and especially kilted skirts are VERY popular womens' wear here -- from schoolgirls to brand name fashion houses... In fact, I did a bit of a search on the Tartan Authority's site, and there are several categories for Japan, including corporate, personal, fashion, just to name a few.

In fact, here's a bit of interesting history about one of them.

    The Sachie Hara tartan (ITI#6228)
The design is a combination of the Douglas tartan and the Japanese flag.
At the visit of the Crown Prince of Japan in 1991, the then first Japanese Consulate General in Edinburgh in honour of the hospitality he had recieved wore the Douglas tartan with Highland dress at the formal banquet held in Edinburgh Castle thus establishing the connection with Japan and the Douglas tartan.
Sachie Hara is a present day (2002) actress and presenter of the Asahi National Broadcasting Company for whom the tartan is produced.
I also distinctly remember seeing a very pink one online once -- something that had to do with being inspired by cherry blossoms or something.

The Czech National is a very nice tartan.
I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear

Ohayo and from the Big Apple.

I was inspired to wear a kilt and directed to my first source by a young man who works near my office and always wears one. He came to kiltwearing through his stint as an English teacher in Japan too!
