Yes, it is a vintage blackthorn root knob shillelagh/walking stick. It even had a name once upon a time but it has been lost and forgotten somewhere along the line.

That pleating with the white stripe on each edge of the pleat really looks sharp. It doubles the bling without being too busy, IMO.

Just a quick comment on this. Whether the kilt is actually too big when the buckles are cinched up tight depends on where the buckles are placed, not on whether the kilt is or isn't too big. It's quite possible to have the kilt fit perfectly (the fringe edge completely covers the underapron edge) but have the kilt be too loose because of where the buckles have been placed.

So, if you are contemplating getting a kilt, please please don't try to second guess the measurements that your kiltmaker asks for. The last thing you want is a kilt that is even 1/2" too small, because then the underapron shows, and it looks awful. And many kiltmakers (me included) will add a half inch or even an inch to the measurements so that someone can gain a little weight. But we put the buckles on at the correct measurement so that the kilt can buckle snugly.

And, if a kilt feels too loose when buckled into the tightest holes, have the kiltmaker move the buckles just a little.
