Another shoe recommendation from an actual wearer: Sofft line of pumps, slings, boots, sandals, etc. available through Nordstrom and elsewhere (Google is your friend). The ~3-inch heels I have from them are, bar none, THE most comfortable dressy shoes I have ever worn -- and I dressed "corporate" for several decades, through the era of business suits for women.

They are well constructed with inside padding/support that looks like an athletic shoe, and they come in both narrow and wide sizes! Remember those first commercials of women playing basketball in their Easy Spirit pumps? Well, IMHO these Soffts are the real deal. I have worn them for evenings out, danced, stood around talking, and walked into the house at the end of the night still wearing them!

Here's the line-up from Nordstrom.com, as I say you can find them elsewhere too.

    Sofft at Nordstrom.com

you HATE HATE HATE HATE tartan. Yuck Plaid! BARF.

You refuse to dress like...like....*humph* these HUSSIES that the men are posting in this thread. In fact, if the dufus you're married to/dating/saddled with wasn't Scottish-crazy, you wouldn't be seen dead with anything plaid anywhere in your house, much less on your body. But there you go, the dufus wants you to wear the clan tartan, and it's too late to divorce him/find a new boyfriend/hire an assassin.

How to wear "tartan" but not have it particularly visible?

    Tartan belt.

tartan clutch (you can leave it in the clan tent and "forget" to carry it around all day).

Tartan belt, clutch, sun hat with tartan ribbon around it....THAT will shut him up before you murder him, you won't expire from the heat at the Games, it will garner approving nods from the other women at the tent, and you can bury the stuff in the back yard before you have to wear it again, next season.

    Tartan belt.

Nice belt, but it needs a few more colors.

    Talking

I've had my eye on this thread but haven't had any pictures until now...

This is what I wear when my husband James is wearing a kilt and I want to tartan up too, I think I accesorize well with my daughter, lol. This is actually a sling that I made when my husband ordered 20 yards of fabric off of ebay thinking it would be cool to have a whole bunch of tartan

And this is what it looks like without the baby, I think it looks really nice. (oh and by the way, the shoes look like sneakers in this picture but they're dressy lace up shoes with high heels.)

And this is how my daughter gets all dolled up with tartan

And this is her everyday tartan (aka blankie)

There's others in my McMurdo Clan photo album.

Kate Hudson appears on the cover of this month's Cosmopolitan in a D&G Royal Stewart tartan bustier, which you can get for about $475 from eluxury.com, where for a few shekels less, you can also get a blouse from DSQUARED2 in the same tartan for a less up-front-and-out-there look.

I'm sorry, you were saying what?

    I was distracted by this:

Wow, how to work with the hand you're dealt!
