Is this Traditional?

I live near a late 18th century fort that likes to do 'period' programs from time to time. I was thinking it would be neat to copy the above uniform for appearances and such.
Although it is a modern print, I was curious as to it's authenticity relating to the uniform of the Highland soldier in America in the mid to late 18th century.

Hardly traditional. That is historical reenactment wear. There is quite a difference.

sorry, the thread title was misleading, but here is the question I asked:

I'm sorry, Sandford, but I would disagree. The painting, Warriors, by noted artist Robert Griffing, who has been recognized by a number of groups and organizations for his work:
Two of his large paintings depicting the opening moments of the Battle of Fort Necessity, commissioned by the National Park Service, will be part of a cyclorama in the new visitor's center at the battlefield site. The historical accuracy of his paintings earned him the prestigious John Forbes Medal, presented by the Fort Pitt Association and the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.

Griffing's works should not be so easily dismised. Personally, I would love to have this painting in my office.

Todd

Thats a terrific painting. I wouldn't know about how accurate the cloths are but I have to say the uniform is outstanding. Nothing compares to a highlander in uniform Wow

Historical Accuracy vs. Traditional Attire

In answer to your question, I believe the painting is accurate down to just about the last detail. There are a number of reenactors here who will undoubtedly call me to task if I am in error.
I have agitated in the past for a strictly "HISTORICAL" forum for reenactors, etc. and I think this sort of reinforces that argument. You might want to re-post your question on the "General Kilt Talk" forum and see if you get more informed answers than mine.

No need for disagreement, Todd; we are on the same page here. I wasn't questioning the historical accuracy at all. I was just saying that the painting is hardly traditional as we in this Forum interpret that word.
Cheers,
Sandford

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
