Christmas Party Attire

I'm one of those guys who thinks sweaters look better outside the kilt, and who only wears white socks playing tennis. That said, everything-- especially the length of the kilt-- is spot on. Well done for your first time out!

Yes, I agree about the sweater, and I was debating whether to wear it in or out of the kilt. I wanted to show off my belt buckle, so the "in" won. As for the hose, well, I have nice black ones and was very intent on wearing them, then the wife steps in and said "no". She preferred the white. Woman! Ha!

Anyway, thanks for the nice comments. I will get better at this!

I'd say it's a good start, but I would echo what others have said about the sweater inside the kilt and the white hose. I wear the kilt with a sweater often and always wear the sweater outside the kilt. Another thought is the belt for me anyway a belt with the kilt is not needed.

....I am fairly new to kilting as well, but I would ditch the sporran chain. I got a chain "free" with my first sporran. I had read a few threads about how the chain can rub and wear on the kilt. On one of the first occassion wearing it I had it on for more than 12 hours. No damage was done, but I could definitely see where people were coming from. I have a nice pair of sporran hangers now for day to day use, and will be getting a leather sporran belt with a nicer sporran (with a hand tooled Irish harp) I plan on ordering post Christmas.....

I think white hose look fine with your tartan - although a nice green to match - or even black would look great.
As for the jumper (sweater) I leave mine untucked - but then again I normally leave my t-shirts untucked with a kilt too; which I'm sure a lot of people on here would frown upon!

Thanks everyone! I guees you can pick up so many different opinions on this site, but I love 'em all.

Now, I do have black hose, but what color green? Bottle? Remember, this is the Irish National, and I love green, but I sure don't want to over do it.

I LOVE that tartan. I'd do as others suggest and pull the sweater out. The green tie looks very good with it. I typically wear black or dark green hose with that tartan.

I agree about untucking the sweater, but have no problem with the white hose. After all, this was a Christmas party, and white is a seasonal color. Yellow hose would work well with your tartan, if you want to get some colored ones.

By the way, may I have the table in your entry hall?
