Welcome from the Pennsylvania Dutch Country! As has already been stated, spend the money and get a better quality kilt. I have a casual from Rocky at USA kilts and I could not be happier (at least until I get that semi-trad I have my eye on.) The look and feel of a well made kilt is worth the extra expense. If you are planning on wearing a kilt year round you might want to invest in a heavyweight kilt. Welcome to our shared addiction!

Thank for all your responses! I'm glad to see there's a whole community about ''wearing the kilt'' haha, I didn't see a ''Jean's wearer's club'' anywhere. i wonder why :P
Do you want to know my story about wearing a kilt, since I don't have scottish family or anything...
My girlfriend made me a handsewn kilt 1 year ago, just for practicing her sewing skills (very light wool, about 4-5 yards of fabric) so i started wearing it beacause she liked it, (she finds a man in kilt more attractive). But I just found it awesome to wear! Since the fabric is way too lightweight, I don't wear it outside, just inside. But occasions are rare to wear in public (exept gf and family)
so then i've started looking to find a suitable one for my lifestyle...school, work, PUB!
I think first day i receive it, I go to the St-Patrick pub down the street with pals and put my favorite guinness polo and just order an extra stout. yes.
life is good, isn't it?

Je suis à l'autre bout de la 20, et j'ai pour le moment trois kilts, dont un non traditionnel (coton, couleur unie).

Welcome from the Cape Fear River Valley, NC, USA
I second all the advice on saving up until you can get a properly fitted, custom kilt. They are well worth the additional money, and once you have one, as long as your waist remains fairly constant (A waist is a terrible thing to mind) you will be able to wear it for the rest of your life!
