My Dirk Project
I did a handle in black walnut a while back for my Southern Brutha From Anutha Mutha ( AKA Donnie of Wyvern Leatherworks ) and it was a hard thing to let go of, so I decided if given the opportunity, I would make one for me.
A store opened here locally called Classic Blades so I decided to check them out and found a blade I think will work quite nicely for my project. It is a Muela in 440C that can be seen on there Alcaraz models.

My next problem was to find a suitable hunk of timber that would make the blade look better than it already does....so I dug around in my shop and came up with a wicked hunk of black walnut burl to work with:

After I finish up some loose end projects , I finally get to make my dream dirk and sheath.
More to follow.

FLASH FORWARD.......
Here she is:

So the handle has three woods in it, African blackwood buttcap, black walnut burl handle, applewood pommel, now I have to make one out of a wicked light colored wood.
Thanks for looking.

That is fantastic! Donnie is lucky. It couldn't happen to a better guy. Thanks for the pics.

Bro, you KNOW how I feel about walnut, and it's doubly so about burl.
Beautiful. While I love your carving, I'm LOVING the fact you left the face smooth. It really shows the grain at it's best.

Thanks fellas, I said it wrong, but this one is MINE!!! I did one for Donnie a while back and it made me want one for myself, so this is what I came up with. Thanks again for the kind words.

Argh... I'm going to be white water rafting near Chatanooga this weekend. Wish I had time to meet up with you to see this in person. I figure the pictures just don't do the right justice.
Love the choice of woods.

Thank you sir,
You must be going over to the Ocoee, I think the worst part of that ride will be getting through all of the construction barrels, its the new Tennessee state plant.
