Same thread...over and over...
I hesitated to post on this thread as I'm afraid it will become a debate about BSA and kilt wear again. I'd encourage all that have questions to do a search and you will find all that needs to be said in previous threads.
Regarding the real intent of the thread...
Congrats to both you and your son!!! I'm an Eagle Scout myself and it's an accomplishment that I'm truly proud of. With me spending so much time in Afghanistan over the past 5 years, my son, unfortunately, has quit Boy Scouts because he wasn't enjoying it. I can't say that I blame him...it's hard not having your dad around and I think one of the reasons I enjoyed it so much as a youth was because of the time I spent with my dad on camping trips and such.
I'm going to be getting involved as a leader again after we move in 45 days or so...maybe I can talk him into rejoining as I intend to stay home for at least the next 2 years. This is the first year in the past 27 years that I've let my membership lapse. I'd have jumped back in at the beginning of this school year, but I knew I was leaving in November so it didn't seem worthwhile to get involved in a local troop just to leave again.
Again...congrats to your son and remind him that this is just the beginning of his journey. We look for great accomplishments out of him!! And as an afterthought...I'll quote something my Division Command Sergeant Major said to some Soldiers earlier this week as the Commanding General was handing out some Commander's Coins for exceptional performance of duty: "If you ever suck, you have to give it back!"

Congratulations to your son. Being an Eagle myself, it is something to celebrate. I think a kilt is a wonderful celebratory gift; however setting an example is part of being an Eagle and I think the kilt at the ceremony might create some issues around not being in uniform. Save the kilt for unofficial Scouting activities.

I forgot how the Kilt vs. Scouts is a hot button to some on this forum, Please lets just focus on my son's Achievement, I am sorry if I started anything, It was a funny statement from him to wear a kilt. He also want the JrROTC Saber team to be his honor Guard.

An ROTC guard would be cool. Is he having a guest of honor providing a speech? Will you or his mother be pinning the medal on?

My Congratulations to your son.
I have been involved with Scouting for 35 years and have pinned 25 Eagles. Some were 14 some were 18. Some wore blue jeans, some wore perfect uniform. IMHO the purpose of scouting is to have fun. Along the way we have some great experiences and learn a few things too. I wear kilts at scouting functions frequently. I think it’s fun to wear a kilt. As far as the McLaren tartan goes I am a 3 time Wood Badger The Scottish and Canadian boys wear McLaren so I would say go for it and don’t forget to have fun

He wants to invite John McCain, So I told him as soon as we have a firm date to start a letter campaign. Of Course with the Fall election it might be easier to wait acouple of months.

Mine was just as a soon to be kilter and bsa supporter. Honestly, your son should be able to do whatever he wants.
Where can I send a congrats card? PM me please.
