This thread has increased my desire to get a Confederate Memorial kilt though...
or Zardoz--feel free to get one of these. Notice how the grey 'confederate' and blue 'union' are side-by-side AND woven together

    Thumbs up

Detroitpete, Don't think I'd seen that one before, it is a good looking tartan though. I know a few guys that have what we call "dual heritage" that it would be a good fit for indeed, but my direct family has resided in 'the South' since they were put off the prison ship in Virginia! And I really like the looks of the Confederate Memorial tartan, regardless of it's name or purpose. Like the Texas Bluebonnet, it's been on my list for years, but I'm kind of cheap and didn't want to pay for a wool kilt in it, and I really like PV as a kilt material. Hopefully it will pop up in PV one of these days like the Bluebonnet did.

(and yes I know there are acrylic ones out there, I'll wait)

I've been very ill since Friday, and missed this, so I'm sorry for the late reply.

I think that was really the problem early on. We weren't sure.

Farb is a derogatory term used in the hobby of historical reenacting in reference to participants who exhibit indifference to historical authenticity, either from a material-cultural standpoint or in action. It can also refer to the inauthentic materials used by those reenactors.

That's not the story I've heard:

I read this version many years ago in The Camp Chase Gazette.

My favorite derivative is "farbfest", for an extremely unauthentic - or "farby" - event....

We lovingly referred to those as "dog and pony shows".

    My favorites were always

No one will ever know the true root of the word I fear. Many claim it as their own. Though the Came Chase Gazette was one of the best studies on it.

You've got to love "tauntingly bleating like sheep at less authentic units." I can see Stephen Fry right now, as (General Melchett) saying m- Baaaahhhh.
