    Cold & Heat, Ron?

You can go sightseeing anywhere in it. It WILL attract the ladies. And, you can go dancing in it.
RON: I had seen you suggest that your RKilt was good in cool or cold temps, are you saying leather is good in heat as well? I thought it might get sticky against the skin. Any "care and maintenance" after a long day? (I don't own one so I am curious and see it relevant to the OPs inquiry)

Exactly the same in my case.

In Switzerland you can wear any kilt, day in, day out.

My wife and I will spend a month in Lugano, Switzerland every year. This year it will be for the 13th time in a kilt there, I think. No problems at all. Absolutely no need to follow strict rules either, regarding accessories. Just look decent.
And expect no custom checks at the Swiss border, other than you can be asked if you bring any weapons. Between EU-countries, like Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and France there is no control at all.

I dont know how your trip is arranged. Normally, such trips are based on travel through the countryside by day and stops late evening for the night, either in a sleeping compartment or hotel with the next day spent in the city for sight seeing. For such a trip I would divide my dress code in three parts. Casual trousers for the rail journey, leaving the kilt for the sight seeing and evening functions. Being in a foreign country I would be for wearing full hose and good shoes.

Its hotel based in 2 centres. It will be summer so I hope to forget the strides.
All meals are included (I hope local dishes). We prefer a package holiday and we always make friends with others in the party. We tried once on our own and spent most of the time looking for hotels and restraunts.

Interesting remark that shorts show as much leg as the kilt.
While a lot of men hereabouts wear long shorts (or Bermuda shorts, if you still use that term), I often see much shorter varieties.
And girls often wear shorts with no legs at all.
To my mind the kilt is much more decent.
    Regards,
    Mike

Totally agree. My shorts are 2 to 3 inches shorter than kilt. I would feel at my age, 65 that a kilt would be much better and more comfortable for travelling. Shorts are fine when camping/caravanning (but then again so is a kilt!)

Thanks for all your replies and suggestions.

Interesting tour but I still think that trousers (if thet what strides are) better for the train journey and kilt for the free time and local tours

Looks like a good itinerary, a variation of the one which I did in 2002, London to Montreux by rail, the Golden Panoramic Express and a visit to Chateau de Chillon.

Hey cessna152towser, anything to do with the Cessna airplane. I had a 1 hour flying lesson in a Cessna from Wick airport a few years back but could not afford to carry on. Pity, flying in a kilt would be good.
Yes, my username stems from the fact that I took my PPL on a Cessna 152 at Carlisle Airport. Over the years I've done quite a lot of kilted flying.

While a lot of men hereabouts wear long shorts (or Bermuda shorts, if you still use that term), I often see much shorter varieties.

Very true, and shorts ride up when sitting, while kilts don't.
