Hilarious! I love this guy! He asked a Scottish driving instructor: “How do you keep the natives off the booze long enough to get them to pass the test?”

Read it and loved it. My favorite DE "witticism" concerns an acquaintance of mine who, while living in London a dozen or so years ago, bought a Rolls-Royce Phantom VI and had it painted claret over black, the same as the Queen's cars.
After several months he wrangled an invitation to lunch at Buckingham Palace with Prince Philip and arrived in patrician style in his Rolls-Royce. After a very pleasant lunch HRH escorted my acquaintance to the side entrance of the palace where his car was parked ready to go.

 "Your car?" asked the Duke.

 "Yes" came the reply.

"My colours," snapped the Duke. "Get it repainted."

I have met the man in question on two occasions. The second of which, we were in discussion for over 10 minutes. I do not believe he would be so stupid as to make disparaging remarks to the woman who is going to be the next de jure Queen.

At the risk of being somewhat offensive, I don't find casual racism amusing. I recognize that he is from a different generation and grew up with very different standards but I also know others of his generation who have overcome how they were raised.

It seems to me that HRH doesn't give a fig for "tolerance" and "political correctness". I think I'd get along nicely with him. --dbh

I agree with Andy here. I think Prince Phillip crosses over the line once in a while in what, to me, is unacceptable territory.

OTOH, some of his comments are fantastic! I especially like Rathdown's quote, and there are many others I've heard where he just cuts through the c#@p!
