I had a local seamstress crop a Harris Tweed that I'd found in our local Value Village. It took a couple of tries, but she did a very nice job on the cutaway once she understood how the sporran figured into the picture.

Wore it for the first time out with the family to Langley's Country Celebration last week, a sort of mini country fair. Not an overtly Scottish event, but it was held in Campbell Valley Park, which was settled by Scottish immigrants, and there were Scottish dancers, both Highland and Country. I was even asked at the entrance whether I was a performer...

(need to hike that sporran up a little, get a better shine on those shoes, and of course I've got a small bag of fudge in my right pocket...)

Some nice comments on wearing the kilt from a couple of people, but had one slightly surreal moment.
A benevolent Buddhist foundation was handling all the recycling for the event, and had a display tent. They asked for a picture with me (my first request for that) and they then launched into a full explanation of how water-bottle plastic was being turned into many different products, including fleece blankets that they provide to the homeless; all the while we were being videoed by another one of their members.
I tried to make polite relevant comments, but all I could think of was what HRH-TPoW goes through when being shown through yet another factory, "Oh yes, very nice. Do they come in different colours?"

All in all a very pleasant day out.
