This comes up again and again, and I think a lot of people fail to realize that there are rules regarding how to wear pants properly.
-Highwaters are a no-no.
-Belts go inside the belt loops.
-The waist should come up above your underwear, so that you aren't wearing your pants like a rapper, but at the same time, it shouldn't come up to your armpits like your grandpa.
-The zipper goes in the front. (Anyone else remember Kriss Kross?)
-You don't wear them inside out. (Like in Back to the Future II)
-You don't wear jeans to an event where other people are in tuxedos. (Weddings, funerals...)
-You don't wear a tuxedo to places where people are wearing jeans. (Picnics, baseball games)
There is really a limitless number of rules for how to wear pants. We just never think about them because everyone is wearing pants all the time, we know the rules because we see them in effect every day. If you went outside the rules wearing pants you would be laughed at. I bet all of us have laughed at someone for breaking at least one of the rules on how to wear pants.
Kilts are the same. There have been threads on this forum laughing at people for wearing their kilts with the pleats in front or on the side. Or for wearing their kilts too long. Or too short.
