And a waistcoat in the same tartan as the kilt, but in a different colour style, is quite acceptable. In fact, I have it in mind to order a waistcoat in Lindsay Muted to go with the Lindsay Modern kilt that I hope to be able to wear by Christmas.
Great point, Mike. I sometimes wear a tartan waistcoat in a different colour scheme than my kilt, but the sett is the same. There is nothing wrong with this approach for Highland evening attire at all, and I have seen others (Macphersons) do the same in the Highlands. It's something a wee bit different and makes for an interesting and rather smart look.
