I came across this 'official' walking out tartan for navy/marines.

I always find the "claims" of that company (International Tartans and Mr. David McGill) a bit suspect...

"Now adopted as the ‘out of uniform’ emblem for all serving members and veterans of the US Navy and Marine Corps, the first tie was presented to Mayor Jerry Sanders of San Diego, home to the US Pacific Fleet."

I want to know who "adopted" it. He does the same thing for all of his tartans, trying to pass off his designs as quasi official. He'll send some high ranking person a gift of a tie and will receive a thank you note (not surprisingly) for the gift. Next, the thank you note is quoted on his site beside the tartan along with the statement that the tartan has been "officially adopted". Acknowledgement of a gift does NOT equal official recognition, though some seem to get confused on that point.

Steve... I think your Marine Corps Dress tartan does look very nice and compliments the uniform well.

Now back to the topic at hand. Sorry to Steve for going OT in his section.
