So, I enjoyed Tartan Day very much this year - yesterday was action packed!
The day started out with a trip to Port Perry for their fifth annual Tartan Day celebrations. Clan Donald Southern Ontario took part in the parade from the centre of town to the local Royal Canadian Legion branch.
Jim McDonald and I "carried the colours" for Clan Donald.
There was singing, ceilidh dancing and Scottish country dancing as well as steak pies and haggis at the legion. The organizer (Stewart Bennett from the Wee Tartan Shop in Port Perry) got wind that I was a singer so he asked me to share some Gaidhlig music with the attendees and I was happy to oblige. Stewart is pictured singing here with the talented Susan Ryman.
After a quick nap and wardrobe change, it was off to meet some xmarks friends at the Caledonian pub in Toronto as per the thread in the kilt nights section. It was great to see everyone and I had a great time. This was the most fun-filled tartan day I can remember. I would seem as if this relatively young holiday is certainly picking up steam among Scottish ex-pats and Canadian-born Scots alike.
Slaine Mhor!
