I don't have a Sport Kilt hiker, but I do have some Supplex fabric that's very similar in weight that I've been meaning to make a kilt with. It's very light, so I think it's fair to say that a stiff wind will definitely pick the aprons up. For the kind of use you're talking about I don't think it'd be too light at all, provided you're not expecting it to swish like a big yardage wool kilt.
