Some small-scale Scottish weavers will weave a single width 8 yard length of any tartan you want, so that your kilt maker can make a kilt for you in a tartan, which is not normally produced by the larger weavers. That's how I got my kilt, and it cost me no more than a kilt made from a tartan that is woven in bulk quantities.
