Even though I say it myself, Steve, I and others have been banging on about this very point for many years on this website. I suspect if you went back in oh so many threads you will find this very point discussed in depth and I have to say that I have always felt that some extremely sage words were falling of deaf ears! 
As an example have a look at post 27 in CMcG's " Traditional Highland Wedding Attire" thread. I don't suppose that some kind soul could do one of those link thingies for me please?
