Yesterday was a terrific day. My postal carrier delivered two brand new kilts.

First the Pirrsburgh kilt. I have to admit that I am a die hard Utilikilt fan, for work I have always needed the pockets, and that is the biggest reason I have not considered any of the other contemporary kilt companies out there. However, as someone who does wear a kilt about 90% of the time, I decided that I needed something for colder weather. As result I decided that PK's were probably the best way to go. I am now the proud owner of a Black Denim (at least Jeff calls it denim, but it is softer and thicker than any pair of jeans I have ever owned) lined with flannel. While I like the pocket space of the UK's, I didn't really care for the dangelly side pockets from PK, so I opted for the hidden interior pockets and the back pocket. I must say that I love it. It is indeed warm and very comfortable, and looks awsome. I am still a little unsure about the internal pockets. UK's mocker pockets are designed to fall between your legs when you sit (but being that deep it soes look like you're playing a serious game of pocket pool when looking for change), the PK's pockets fall to the outside and are shallower, so I am a little concerned about things falling out when I sit (nothing has yet, but I'm still a little nervous). Also, thanks to his great fastening system I'll be able to wear it if I gain or lose weight. The only real problem is that the material is so thick that there is no way to hold a pop between my legs when I'm driving (hard in a UK, but not impossible).

Second the Stillwater kilt. After being here for a while, I decided that there are times when I might like another Tartan kilt, but not one that costs more than my house payment (I do have one one Tank a Thomas Gordon, but I only wear that for "Occasions"). Sportkilts have always looked too cheap. I finally decided that I would give the Stillwater guys a chance after they came out with the new Nightstalker tartan. It is their standard model, not the economy. All things considered it is not bad. The PV material looks alot like wool, just a little lighter, and it seems to hang right. The problem is the buckles. The leather is very thin, and I think that after a few trips through the washer, they might have to be replaced. Not something I'd wear to a formal event, but difinitely something to go the bar in.
