Frankly, in how I spend most of my days, not many people (save some very close friends) would take me seriously in a true tartan kilt (not saying that I will never purchase one), whereas, beating around in a tough, well-made casual kilt makes a world of sense to me! Not to mention that our lveis have changed so much from the days of the kilts origin, we have true housing, paved roads, running water, in short we don't need to worry about wearing a complete and utter all-weather garment, because we don't (for the msot part) live in a true outdoors, rugged environment, and if your clothes happen to get dirty or mucked about in once in a while, it won't do them any harm, but we no longer live in that world nowadays.
